I've been using sites like Parchment and Cappex as ways to predict my chances and I was questioning the validity of the data that they base your "chances" of getting into a certain school. Does anyone know how accurate these sites are and if there are any valid alternatives to the "chancing" process?

Thanks.

Please use the search function on CC. This question has been asked numerous times.

With so many top schools practicing “holistic admissions”, many intangibles come into play for admission. Parchment and Cappex can’t factor many of these in, which creates a flaw in their methodology.

The most accurate way to assess your chances is to “chance yourself”. Identify what schools you want to apply to, visit their forum on CC and find the “20XX ED/RD Decisions Thread”. Look at accepted and rejected students from more recent years (2010, 2011, 2012) and compare your stats with theirs.

^Actually there is sadly no way to truly asses your chances, I hate to say it. Colleges know who they already want before they start looking at applicants. And ti is usually differnt each year. To put it in short, you will never know until youapply

Our experience was that those are reasonably useful with respect to large, publics but useless in terms of LACs.
