Hi all, I’m a US citizen who’s been living in France for the past 11 years, I’m currently a sophomore, or the French equivalent: “Lycée.” Due to circumstances I will probably be returning to the USA next year to finish High School. I’m hoping to study aerospace engineering over there as well.
I’m not worried about integrating into a new school as much as I am about being “caught up” with the material taught over there. I’m counting on taking AP classes to get some early college credits, specifically Calculus, Physics and Chemistry. In France we do integrated math instead of separate classes like Algebra 1/2. I’m not sure if I have the knowledge to sign up for Pre-Calc or Calc. I’ve been doing Khan Academy but I don’t see that as a direct learning tool as much as I do a way to revise what I’ve already learned.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do to catch up?
If you are in high level classes now, you will probably do fine in AP classes. Coming from overseas, the high school may test you for placement, even if that has to be done online. I would not be too concerned.
I am not sure if that answers your question.
here some schools do integrated math. I don’t know how it compares to France. Here my youngest did the equivalent of integrated math 1 in 8th grade (it was kind of a transition year from the older algebra 1 they used). In 9th grade at the high school she did integrated math 2 honors, and now is in integrated math 3 honors in 10th grade. At the completion of this school year she will have covered all the same material in algebra 1, geometry and algebra 2 honors just taught in a slightly different order. There is some trig that is included but I don’t think it is all of trig. In 11th grade she will be in precalculus honors and in 12th grade a version of calculus. Not sure if this helps.
