how are legal internships during undergrad viewed?

I have the opportunity to intern next semester at a top nationwide firm in IP law (a law oriented position, but also utilizing my engineering background). Is this viewed favorably for law admissions / future internships during law school, or is it similar to doing too much "pre-law" oriented coursework, and law schools would rather have you pursue other interests as an undergrad?

I am planning to take the position either way to get a sense of what firm life is like and figure out for sure if it's something I want to do, but I'm just curious to see if it's something I'd want to "play up" in my applications :)

More importantly, it may help to inform you as to whether you want to be a lawyer. I would look at it that way.

the experience may also help you in developing a more interesting and thoughtful personal statement-- and that of course is a key component of your application.

It may help in your admissions prospects to the extent that it is not just a line item on your resume. If the job is significant enough to become part of your personal statement, it may help more or less, depending on your experience and your use/explanation of your experience.
