My first question is when people on this forum talk about gpa, what grade's gpa are they referring to? Grade 10 or 11? Which semester?

Secondly my SAT score is just short of perfect.
And my SAT II score was just a little short of perfect. (I can't remember right now what they were!)
My grades: (approx. I can't remember them off the top of my head since they are so far back.)

Grade 9:
Semester 1: 93
Semester 2: 93

Grade 10:
Semester 1: 97
Semester 2: 98

Grade 11:
Semester 1: 96
Semester 2: 99

Grade 12:
Semester 1 mid point: 98

Are my academics good? I did poorly in grade 9 because I had to take technology class, and I got a 93 or something like that. In grade 9, I took 1 AP, but for the restvof the years, I took the most difficult.

By the way, is a 4.00 gpa 100%? Because from some, I hear it's 90+, others say 93+, and others tell me 95+...

Your grades are very good – but Yale wants more than “just” academics: they want highly accomplished all-around students with good extracurricular activities that show interests and passions. Also, keep in mind that Yale does reject straight-A candidates with high scores: there are so many outstanding candidates going for Yale that at some point, it’s a bit of a crap shoot. That is why even the best students are urged to apply to a range of schools - from ‘reaches’ like Yale, to ‘safeties’ where you’re virtually guaranteed admission.

There are a lot of people out there with 2300+ SATs who are Salutatorian/Valedictorian, national debate champions, class presidents etc. who get rejected. I’m not trying to ruin your day, but a school like Yale wants a distinct mixture of academics, extracurriculars, and fit.

Are you a US citizen or applying from as an international? If the latter, then I’d say you have almost zero chance given the extremely competitive int’l applicant pool.

I’m from Canada, and I have a good balance of extras… This was just my academic part of the application. I’m have made a 1 time national chess appearance, and 3 time provincial chess appearance, winning gold once, and silver twice. I’m the captain of the school chess club, School Council, (Foreign Affairs Minister), Tutor at my school, and have been tutoring outside of school, own and operate my own GFX club at my own house, 450+ hours of community involvement, operate my own blog, night of excellence attendee for three years, academic excellence award for three years, working to get my book published, play several sports, etc. I have Many extracurriculars, and I have been doing each for atleast 4 years.

Uhhh no.

2400’s have 50% shot at Harvard, 900% better chances than average applicant. It’d be silly to assume 2300-2390’s have like anything below a 30% admit rate, especially those who are class presidents and vals.
