How Are My Freshmen Semester Courses? Too little? PHI 2630

My advisers talked me down into taking Calc 2 instead of Calc 3 despite getting a 5 in BC calc. I saw the stats of how only roughly half of the freshmen taking Calc 3 pass it. I feel this is a good reason to go ahead and drop down a level. I went ahead and carried over that logic to taking Chem 1 instead of 2. The thing is, I’m wondering if my course load is too light now. I’m Taking:

CHM 2045: General Chem 1
MAC 2312: Calc 2
SLS 1102: Enhancing the Freshmen Experience
COP 2800: Computer Programming Using JAVA
PHI 2630: Contemporary Moral Issues
(14 credits)

It’s weird trying to balance out taking enough work with getting a good GPA. That last class scares me because it sounds like one of those classes with incredibly subjective grading criteria. I don’t want my grades to be dependent on what views I hold and for a grader I imagine it would be hard not having a bias. It sounds very interesting though and I do need the Gordon Rule. Do you guys know anything about this course? I kind of want a place where I can see all the student reviews on a course to help decide if the course would be good for me. Do any of you guys suggest a better alternative for my writing requirement? My major is Computer Engineering.

Find the name of the professor and look them up at “Rate my professors”.

Here’s an example. Look for comments related to PHI 2630. Also keep in mind that folks with an ax to grind are more likely to post on these “rate my” sites than those that are happy with the class.

If you feel your schedule is a little lite, use your free time to join some clubs and get engaged into campus.Your first semester or two is the perfect time to try out some student groups and find your “tribe”.

Good Luck!

Thank. Guess I’ll have to suck my anxiety up and try a club. The reason I think it’s too light is because 3 of those 5 classes I’m confident I already know 70-90% of the material (Calc 2, Chem 1, Programming with Java) and enhancing the freshmen experience is a 1 credit course. Originally I had FOS2001 but I heard that was a grade inflating class. I’m sure in my later years when I’m taking a lot more difficult classes I’m going to need a class to buffer the difficulty and I don’t want to use up all of those cards on my freshmen year.
