How exactly are the substance-free dorms different from normal people? Am I gonna be surrounded by weird people if I choose it on the application? Is it "less fun" than the regular dorms?

“How exactly are the substance-free dorms different from normal people?”

Well for starters, the substance-free dorms are going to be dorms and not people.

You will most likely be an outcast. They post a list of people who live in the substance free dorms around campus, and these people are known to be the weird kids.

I’ve been told it makes little difference to the amount of partying/drunkenness etc in the dorms. I would think some kids don’t think they’ll drink until they actually get there. Current students please chime in.

but maybe substance-free increases ur chances of not ending up on the North Campus. I don’t think it shud be bad because the rooms are mixed in with the regular dorms…

My roommate’s friend got kicked out of university housing for getting caught drinking in a sub free room last year, first offense. They’re very strict about that sort of thing.

Regarding personalities and how “weird” the people are, there’s honestly little difference. By signing up for substance-free, you’re not sticking yourself in a hall of anti-social, weird, nerdy, whatever-you-want-to-call-it people. Yes, there may be one or two who fall under these categories, but you’ll find that anywhere. I personally lived in a substance-free dorm and the only difference I noticed was that noone was openly sprawled out drunk in the hallways like you may find in the more “party” halls of a dorm.
