How are the counselors at your school?

Just wondering. Let me start off with telling you about the ones at my school. They don't communicate. At all. I am a sophomore who took Chem during the summer. I wanted to get into AP Bio or AP Chem this year. One counselor told me they were out of space and I was on the wait list while another said that they hadn't started changing schedules for sophomores yet. How are the counselors at your school?

Most of them are good. Except my counselor. She just talks and talks and talks and I don’t even know what she talks about. Just nod your head and say ok. Looking for a schedule change? Why don’t you wait for 2 hours and endure another hour of talking XD? I had to change my schedule and waited 3 hours just to finally get a chance to talk to her at orientation. She was so slow the other counselors were happy to take some of us.

I like my counselors.

We’re all assigned one specific counselor but i’ve had the pleasure (well, it wasn’t really a pleasant experience at the time) of having meetings with all of them. Their doors are open and you’re free to just stroll in if you want (well, unless there’s someone in there/someone else has an appointment). My GC is definitely on top of things, asks me how my classes are going and what i’m planning to do in the future.

My only complaint is the girls who hog up their offices for 4 hours/day because they really just don’t feel like going to class but mask it by crying about how “HAAAAAAAARD” their lives are.

For the most part, theyre terrible. Only one of them enjoys his job and actually involves himself in school events. Even though he’s not my counselor, I go to him or a Vice Principal (All of the VPs are pretty helpful) when I need something done.

Asleep: I am going through the same thing. I was supposed to be in AP bio and was told I will get a spot but suddenly they said that seniors get priority and I won’t get the class…ridiculous. Very unorganized and none of the counselors are helpful. My counselor left 2 months before the summer started and I couldn’t even pick my courses well!

no offense, but that seems like a given.

Our counselors and administration are, for the most part, actually very helpful. But then again, maybe it’s a private school thing… Last year I wanted to switch from band to Honors Geometry after the first month of school, and my counselor and the administration/other people involved were really quick about it. And whenever I request an appointment with my counselor, she usually calls me in on the same day or the day after. Needless to say, I’m really happy with my school’s counselors, or at least mine.
