@Nebbalish One of our showers has gone from working normally to shooting a concentrated jet of water, but the other one has been working year round. In the worst case scenario there is always another bathroom around the corner wherever you are in the Quad. I’d say you get a better Freshman experience in the Quad, but your Dad also might be right. I personally got a very bad pick in the lottery for housing so I won’t be able to live in the high rises next year. I don’t know about numbers for the residential programs.

@Porkperson Hill is closer to the science/ engineering buildings, but the Quad is closer to other classes. I really would not put Hill as your first choice. The people who live there end up coming to like it, but the small rooms / no AC are not ideal.

@Americansushi I think King’s Court is definitely a little more lax then the Quad. But you could definitely hang out in the Quad if you have friends that live there. I don’t know about King’s, but in the Quad the residential programs are all on the same hall (I’m pretty sure) and they really don’t effect the people who aren’t part of them.

I’m an incoming freshman. I’d like to know more about stouffer. apparently some first-year people go there just to be able to get a place in mayor in the second year, but how is the living environment in stouffer itself? is it social? is it a popular freshman choice overall?

Can someone suggest a house for me? I’m an incoming freshman in the college of arts and sciences. I’d like to have roommates, a bathroom, and preferably somewhere close to the freshman classes. A dining hall would be nice but not necessary for me. Thanks!

can someone explain to me how the room change process at Upenn work? I’m very disappointed at the dorm I was assigned. Do I have a chance to change room/dorms, and if so, how likely? Thanks!

Can I bump this? Because this seems to be the most informative thread on housing. Could anyone (maybe current students) please also give an insight on the new college house since its opening this fall
So far my current choices are 1) Ware (research and entrepreneurship program) 2) Kings Court (STWing program) 3) new college house 4) Stouffer e.t.c.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, also I will be attending SEAS
@ambitious96 It’s hard to know a ton for sure, since it hasn’t opened yet, but I can say that next year, it’ll be the closest dorm to engineering for sure. The amenities are also nicer than any of the other dorms. I’d say the main concerns with the New College House have to do with the fact that it’s “New.” For one, I wouldn’t be too surprised if there were some unanticipated issues that occur in the fall (e.g. facilities issues, etc.). Additionally, there likely won’t be a strong community there because there is no already existing reputation/community in place. I guess the upside of that is that you can be part of the group that creates the reputation/community for future years.
I would have less concerns with the new college house as opposed to any of the older dorms. The dp had an interesting 4 part series on maintenance and dorms last year. Part 1 is at: http://projects.thedp.com/maintenance-mayhem/
