I would love some input from current students or people who have visited the dorms :)

Yeah i got radisson as well

bump 10char

They’re hotel rooms that have dorm furniture, basically. I hear it’s pretty good, but I have never lived there personally.

Room service would be one benifit I would presume!

If there’s room service (which I think there is) then count on having to pay quite a bit for it.

Here is some information about the Radisson…

The Radisson is on Figueroa Street. Right next store is Rosso’s Pizzeria. Directly across the street is the admission center and Trojan Residence Hall. After the new student union is opened the admission center will be moved.

Galen Center is a short walk away. A student can cross Figueroa and there is a pathway to more campus buildings. It is about a 5 minute walk to Tommy Trojan and the new student center.

The rooms are air conditioned, large and hold a mirror, two large desks, large closets, shelves and a private bath per room. The floors are co-ed.

A plus for the Radisson is the students have the use of the swimming pool and the workout room. RAs are in residence, just as in the freshmen dorms.

It is supposed to be quieter than the other larger freshmen dorms.

wow sounds good

Thanks GeorgiaGirl :)

I also found out a few extra things:

apparently the rooms are bigger than the standard doubles in birnkrant, new/north etc

somebody comes to clean the bathroom for you twice a week :)

yes, you can have room service, if its paid for of course

its a hotel room, but it has standard dorm furniture (twin bed, desk, 3 drawer dresser etc.)

4 floors of the hotel are turned into dorms, so it has RA’s, planned activities etc, and you’ll be staying with 100-200 other USC students there

if you don’t like it, you can ask to be reassigned during the year, and they’ll find a new place for you

they said that kids who are housed there are “lucky,” even if they dont know it, cos its one of the more accommodating dorms

it sounds good to me :)

the only negative is that figueroa has an isolating effect. even though you’re right next to the other freshmen dorms, the fact that you’re off campus is kind of annoying at times.

I was really bummed to get Radisson because I’m afraid it will be a little anti-social…but all the amenities sound really nice…I don’t know. Should I request a reassignment?

And, since a good reassignment is unlikely, can all us Radisson people make a pact to just make it the best dorm of 2010-11? These dorm reputations don’t matter, it’s all about the people. Let’s keep our doors open and just kick ass, what do you think?

i got radisson too and also thought it would be a bit anti-social, i wanted a room change to north/new. but i guess it would be a cool experience to live in a hotel, so i think i’m going to give it a shot. i agree with shastaplease, we’ll make it an awesome place to live

let’s party it up hotel style!!!

I think the main problem with why it’s “antisocial” is simply because like all hotel rooms, the doors don’t stay open unless you have a door stop (ie I’d recommend getting one ). Also, in terms of the party scene there, I think the restrictions are a little more strict than New/North and Birnkrant simply because it’s still serving guests. So the noise level has to be contained to a certain level as not to disrupt other guests.

But the amenities are amazing. My sister loved it. She did say that it was a little clicky on her floor, but people become friends with one another.

Good to hear you guys plan to band together. My daughter also was bummed out at first, but is going to stick with it. It sounds like having a clean place with a pool will be fun. And, once she determined there is as many kids staying there as there are in other dorms, she figured it will still be fun. She an another girl from her high school here in Oregon both are in the Radisson.

Dude this place sounds awesome - anyone on the 6th floor?

My d also is in the Radisson…not too happy about it.
Does anyone know where the laundry is? If it’s not on their floor that could be big problem.

every floor has one washer and one dryer except the sixth floor. The room is vacuumed and the bathroom cleaned once a week. It’s wonderful for your dorm to be a hotel, and I think that anyone who is bummed about “having” to live there is a little more than spoiled…

thanks for the reply.
She thinks she will miss out on all the social stuff and the proximity to McCarthy quad. She will get over it!

Really, if crossing a street is too much effort for someone to make to go hang out with people at Mccarthy, then there’s bigger issues present.
