Radisson Tips and Info

Does anyone know if there are plans to eliminate the Radisson as student housing within the next few years? Are they planning on building new dorms and transferring students out of the hotel?

Also, for current students/parents, know of any tips to help secure a spot in the Radisson for freshman housing?

Thanks!

oh my god it would be so awesome to live in a hotel for college

I heard (and this means I heard, not necessarily 100% a fact) that the Radisson hotel is owned by USC. Part of the hotel is for paying guests and the other part of the hotel is used as USC housing. I have not heard anything about future plans for this hotel.

it's true, Radisson is owned by USC.

Yeah, the Radisson has 7 floors, I believe, 4 of which are used for USC housing.

As for securing the Radisson, housing is first come, first serve, so the sooner you send in your housing application, the better. It's only $30 and it's non-binding, but it's worth it if you end up going to USC. To be honest, on the USC 2012 Facebook group, I haven't seen anyone put the Radisson first, but I don't know if that means no one has.

My son and I stayed in the Radisson last night while visiting campus, and talked to some students who live there. They say they love it! But it is removed from the main freshman quad by a very busy street. I think the negatives outweigh the positives, but my son thought it would be pretty great to have a fairly large room with a private bath and maid service instead of the typical dorm room. It does have a nice pool area and fitness room. The noise at night is ridiculous - there are trucks moving huge steel plates around on the street just east of the hotel, and they seem to work until 3 or 4 a.m.

Rainmama, I know someone who lives in the Radisson this year: he said they're doing construction on all the streets and it should be done by August 2008, so don't let that deter your son from staying there if he wants to.

The main drawback of the Radisson is that you are somewhat isolated, this from my daughter who lives in Pardee. But she said she knows people who like it. They supposedly get weekly maid service and can order room service if that matters to you - and my daughter could us the maid service!
