ok...I am a senior at an American school in Egypt. I am planning to go to Canada for college. I have a 3.6 GPA and have taken quite a number of APs...My SAT score was quite bad and I got 470 in Critical Reading (I know, its horrible), 650 in Math and 560 in Writing...I am however improving and going to take the SAT again and I should be able to break 600 in Writing and 550 in Critical Reading...Apart fro that, i am a pretty good student with extra-curricular activities and NHS and so on...I want to study engineering...U of British Columbia is very hard to get in and so I probably wouldn't try on UBC I guess...U of Toronto is the kind of a college that I really would like to get into...Some people recommended me U of Waterloo and U of Alberta, How are they?? Which one is better amongst the two?? Also are there any other canadian engineering universities that I could apply to just in case I do not get into any of the ones I mentioned above?? Thank you very much for your answers!!!

Self bump…sorry I am new at CC…

anyone please??

nik,

First, welcome to CC!

Second, bumping every ca. 15 minutes is excessive, please give people some time to read and respond to your thread.

Third, I’m afraid that most of use deal with US universities and have much less knowledge and experience with Canadian schools.

Fourth, Try posting this on the Engineering subforum as well.

Waterloo, Toronto, and UBC are all excellent. They are also competitive. For UofT Engineering, here are the admissions averages:
For Waterloo:

Bear in mind that those are for domestic AND international applicants. You will likely face stiffer competition. Your SATs are way, way too low - UofT recommends AT LEAST 600 on each section.

Alberta is a bit less competitive (80% average in engineering), but I’ve heard that the province has more rigorous K-12 schools. You will be expected to take SAT Subject Tests.

Have you taken AP Calculus (AB or BC)? Most of these programs will expect some basic calculus knowledge…

I am very sorry and I will keep that into consideration for the future. Thank You.

Thanks a lot for all the great information…Yeah my SATs are way too low and I need to raise them up…I have taken AP Biology and AP Chemistry in the past…and now I am taking AP Calculus (BC), AP Physics, AP Language & Composition and AP Economics (Micro and Macro)…I have taken SAT II Chemistry and got a 700…I am going to take SAT II Math II and Physics in a couple of months…Also I had another question, do canadian colleges take anything else into account other than your GPA and SAT scores, I mean extra curriculur activities, leadership positions, essay and so on? Thank you very much…

Canadian schools do not seem to care about ECs unless they directly pertain to your field of study (math/science contests, etc.)
