Chem 125 (lab) - Nancy Kerner
Chem 130 (lecture) - Virginia Cangelosi
English 125 College Writing - Emily McLaughlin
UC 104 (MRC intro to research) - Chris Bass

I'm interested in knowing what kind of impressions these professors have made on students in the past, how helpful they are, how interesting/boring the lectures are, how good/bad they conduct the class in general, etc.

I am not sure why k.o.o.f.e.r.s is taboo on this website, but that is the name of the resource I used, without the periods in between of course.

Thanks for posting! I’m aware of myedu & ratemyprofessors, and I’ve checked those two out. I believe only one or 2 of my professors had available ratings on these two sites, but of course they were quite helpful. I’ll have to check out k.o.o.f.e.r.s though

Wolverine2015,
I am also in MRC and from what I heard at orientation Chris Bass is a really good teacher and he is also one of the directors of mrc. The class is supposedly really chill. They just said that attendance and participation counts a lot.

125 isn’t super difficult. I guess you could get a ****ty GSI, and ut is the most work you will ever put into a2 credit class (more than most of the classes I’ve taken really) and you could get a crappy lab group… but its not “hard”

in my opinion, CHEM 125 was a difficult class. It’s so much work for only two credits, but it’s manageable. Your grade is based off of your GSI and how well you do on the two lab exams. Kerner is very nice and she will try her best to help you out. English 125 is also biased. I haven’t heard of those professors, but your grade is determined by how strict the professor is and how you tailor your writing to the style that she wants. CHEM 130 is CHEM 130. At the end of your first exam, people are going to be either crying or really happy. I don’t think the teacher matters as much for that class as the work you have to put into it. I wasn’t good at chemistry so I had to work my ass for a good grade.

Kerner is horrible for CHEM 125. Most boring lecturer ever. I guarantee you’ll stop going to it by the middle of the semester.

Class difficulty depends on your GSI; you just better hope your GSI can speak English. Exams are really easy, complete rehashes of the practice exams.

The 125 lectures are boring (some of the demos are cool though) but every now and then she’ll sat something really important in regards to the lab or a question on the exam that you might not hear otherwise. I did stop going to some, but I always tried to make the review lectures before exam.

My GSI was right off the boat. Very hard to understand Chinese guy. He was nice though and tried to help as much as he could. The first lab reports everyone did well and then the other GSIs told hum he wasn’t strict enough. Then it went to hell. Minus .1 here, minus .05 there… ugh.

At the end of the semester though the GSIs sections are all normalized out so easy sections lower a little and hard sections go up. Plus if you do better on the final you can drop ur midterm and double le your final. I got like a 75% on my midterm but a 105% on my final… just like I planned.

Chem 130 isn’t hard if you do the work and pay attention. Mist of ur class won’t though because they don’t want anything to do with science, they just have to take chem.
