How bad does a C look?

I was wondering how bad a C looks on a transcript? I've gotten all As and some Bs, but only one C. How bad does it look then?

=[

There are soooo many threads on this....

"It doesn't look good."

"If you have a strong application, it's fine."

"Don't worry, you can redo it."

"Can you take the class over an get a good grade?"

"Just make sure you do your best next time."

If you have a strong application, it's fine.

Don't worry, you can redo it.

Can you take the class over and get a good grade?

Bad. Why would colleges choose YOU over kids who are academically excellent and determined?

There was one more quote to repeat and you blew it. Way to go.

Positron,

Just make sure you do your best next time.

You can retake classes?

I think one of the best things the school system has right in the country is retaking classes.

What's up with all you being so stuck up?

Well, C's aren't that good, but it doesn't ruin your transcript. You've gotten A's and B's along the way, so a C is not like getting an F where you all of a sudden have a big hole in your transcript. So, your best move right now is try to do some ECs and get your SAT/ACT scores up and do better in other classes :)

It's very bad...you've created a glass ceiling for yourself. Congrats!

What class was the C in?

As far as I know, you can't retake C's. You can only retake D's or F's.

i think a c looks ok, i mean it's got nothing on the o, but it's 3/4 of the way there...

It depends where you are applying.

I have the same problem. I missed the B by .2 points, and my teacher won't give it to me. It's in the subject I plan never to do anything with again in my life, yet I got a near perfect score on the PSAT: math. Personally, I'd like to go to Princeton, Yale, Georgetown, NYU, or Columbia. Oh, and the "C" was freshman year. How will this affect me (besides class rank)?

Steve u should be fine.
a C in freshman year wont matter as long as your grades Soph, JUnior, Senior year are up to par with those school's expectations.

Our school only allows you to retake if you got an F. And when they say "allow" they mean "you have to in order to graduate".

Work on strengthening your overall GPA. Show improvement in the class you received the C from. I ended up with a C- in Honors Alg II/Trig last year, even though I've always had A ranges for my Math courses.
