I'm withdrawing from AP Environmental Sci. mainly because of lack of interest. That means I will have a WP (withdrawed passing) mark on my high school transcript. Will that affect my college admission chances? Say for example if it is NYU or Uconn (my state school)? I'll probably replace it with an elective and a study hall. I won't drop it if it will be bad. So?

UConn, no. NYU, maybe

If you replace it with another class that you enjoy and isn’t “fluff”/filler, it shouldn’t make a difference.

You probably don’t want to hear this, but I don’t think that’s such a good idea…For instance, I really wanted to drop my precalculus honors class my junior year but missed the drop deadline, so I had the choice of taking a WP or not withdrawing at all. I ultimately decided against it because even though I had a mid B in the class, a WP is the same whether it’s an A+ or a C- (as long as it’s a passing grade) and colleges may just assume that you were doing really poorly even if you weren’t.

Unless you still have the option of dropping it without having it show up on your transcript, I’d stick it out for the semester before dropping/changing classes. That’s what I did–I leveled down to an accelerated precalc class second semester for a much more manageable workload. If you do that, then I doubt NYU or UConn would mind at all.

Best of luck!

I see. This will be a tough decision for me but I think when I talk to my guidance counselor, I can set a plan for how I want my classes to be like. Even if I do drop it, I’ll know what I don’t want to become. If I don’t, I’ll still learn. Thanks everyone!
