I received my Math IIC score yesterday, and I got a 690 :/ I took only one other SAT II, Literature, and I got a 760 in that.

I am applying to several selective colleges which require two SAT IIs. I am kinda worried about sending the Math IIC score now. Overall, I am trong academically - 2300 SAT, been top of my class throughout (I'm international, btw), and Math is actually one of my best subjects in school and my transcript shows very high Math grades. So will my Math II score reflect poorly on me?

I don’t know where you’re applying, but Math II has one of the most forgiving curves out of all Subject Tests so a 690 may lead some schools to believe that you didn’t know the majority of the material.
I, personally, think that it’s a perfectly good score.

It’s probably due to curricular differences in math between the US and your country. What gets taught in the US is what gets tested. For a liberal arts major it’s a good score. Send it and move on. BTW, what colleges are you applying to?

I know, it has such an easy curve, that is the reason I’m anxious.

Well, not really the curricular differences, but the method of testing. I’m just not good at the kind of speedy math that standardized tests require, I don’t know why. :/

I’m planning to major in English Literature. Few of the colleges I’m applying to are: Brown, Dartmouth, Yale, UChic, Duke, Wesleyan, Barnard etc. I know admissions are holistic, but overall I’m a pretty ordinary student, by the standards of these colleges. So I’m worried if this one score can seriously affect my overall prospects? Maybe I should look at good schools that don’t require two SAT IIs (like UChic)?

Hey I’m in the same boat as you! I got a 760 on lit, but a 660 on math 2. Math is my worst subject (up there with science, but they’re kinda one in the same), but I don’t have any other sat 2 scores so I’m sending them both. If you’re a senior, it’s too late to worry, so don’t. I’m also planning on majoring in English (and psychology).

The thing is I’m not bad at Math at all, in general. I’m just bad at standardized testing type math. Which is why I’m worried that the score will be an anomaly. :/

Also, it’s not too late. I could retake in Jan. But is it worth the trouble? And also, I’m not very confident that I’ll be able to increase my score by a substantial amount.

If you’re planning to major in English Lit, it should be find for colleges. It’s not worth it to retake for a 10-30 point score boost (after you around the 700-720 mark, it doesn’t actually matter).

^ I can’t, that’s the problem. I’m a Humanities student, which means I have no Science subjects in school (PCB). Neither do I have History. It’s too late for self-studying to be a feasible option now.

Retaking the Literature one isn’t worth it. Some LAC’s recommend but don’t require subjects tests, but with universities the U. of C. is unusual. You could try Math Level I or both levels in January if allowed.
