Had a bad day and knew I wasn’t going to do that great on bio. I am an incoming junior and I do not want to do anything science related really in college. I want to focus more on economics and business. How bad does a 3 on bio look if I don’t want to do anything related to biology in college?
If you are looking to apply to elite schools you are best off not to send them the score. If it’s a less selective school then it might even help.
You might check the websitea of the schools you are targeting. If they accept a 3 as credit them sending it won’t hurt you. If they only accepts 4s and 5s or just 5s, then it will likely hurt you.
People love to say that AP scores don’t really matter to admissions, but I think that they can have a moderate impact, especially around determining the rigor of your courses. If you received an A+ in bio and scored a 3 it would be an indication that there may be real grade inflation at your high school.
I got a 3 on my bio test too and it did not hurt me. I did not send it and ap bio was the only ap class I took. Ap courses help, but only so much. It’s more important in interviews for you to mention what you learned in that class about yourself, how you moved forward as a student, how you challenged yourself, etc. if you can talk about that that goes a longer way. The only thing the score helped me with was in terms of placing me in a class once I was already accepted to my college. Maybe now show colleges that you are interested in economics and business through extra curricular a or in classes you take. I wasn’t interested in math or science courses really so I took astronomy and economics senior year and colleges thought that was interesting in interviews. I wouldn’t worry too much. There are so many other areas of your application that are worth more so focus on that. Good luck!
