How bad is my SSAT score?

I took the test in November and received a 89% Grade-Gender. High math scores but low verbal and reading. I’m considering taking it again in January but there are a few hinderances.

  1. They are expensive
  2. Many of the schools I’m applying for have deadlines a few days after the test. I know it will be okay but I don’t want to gamble on my performance on the January test.
  3. Choate, Hotchkiss, and Middlesex School should be okay with my score(?). I know that their average is in the mid-80’s but I’m wondering if that statistic is accurate. Of course, my score is below average for Exeter and Andover.
  4. I’m not sure if I will have enough time to study for it/ have the resources for it. I’ve already went through 2 books and my family and I will not be willing to spend any more money on those. I know most of the words I was unsure of in the verbal section and also remember most of the reading and math so I’ll be able to study from that but, again, I don’t want to take that gamble.
I’m just worried about sending those scores to Exeter/Andover. My Exeter interview was mediocre and my essays should be fine, as well as my recommendations/transcripts, etc. I am in need of FA and I’m an ORM. Hellpp

If you decide to take the test again you can borrow copies of the study guides at your local library.

@MAandMEmom That’s the problem-- I live in a rural area and my library doesn’t have any study guides on their catalog, but I’ll check again.

There is tons of stuff online

What about interlibrary loan? That’s what we did to have a good supply and even several year’s worth.

@Center I’ll look around more online @MAandMEmom I’ll try that, thank you!

I recommend looking at this website: http://blog.prepscholar.com/ssat-practice-tests
It gives a lot of free online resources.
Good luck!
