Whenever I mention Bing, my mom always says, "If you're gonna apply/go to bing, just go to community college." I mean, is it really that bad? Because to my knowledge, I've heard that Binghamton is considered a public ivy. Can someone please explain why it's a good college? Thanks in advance.

Your Mom is wrong. Here are some facts about bing and then you decide
- One of the best public universities in the nation ( 39th)
- One of the best universities in the NATION ( 86th)
- Admission Rate is 33%
- 70% 4-year graduation rate
- Student:Faculty 20:1
- Average High School GPA : 3.6
- Middle SAT Range Reading: 580-670 Math:620-700

Its one of the top SUNYs

And here’s a list of awards and rankings and stuff;

Just like the first post said Binghamton is a very selective school with numerous achievements state and nation wide. Maybe your mother is referring to the atmosphere. Binghamton, although being one of the top SUNY is also one of the biggest party schools. Binghamton is in relatively close range to Albany and Syracuse and cortland so within about a 50 mi radius you are also surrounded by other party schools. That is honestly the only thing I can see that would make your mom think o such a thing. Why don’t yo show her the statistics, and maybe go for a visit maybe then she will have a change of heart.

It’s pretty bad. Huge classes, lots of stupid people getting in (intelligent people also go to bing), wave of bad press (murder of a faculty member, sports scandals, SUNY budget problems). Also, Binghamton is prob the worst college town.

^ Okay, that’s simply not true. It’s widely regarded as the top SUNY, “huge classes” aren’t anything beyond any state school, and when most people think of it, they aren’t flooded with images of scandal and woe. And I can think of a LOT of worse college towns. It actually has a lot of shops, restaurants, and malls… yeah.

I know I sound really defensive and biased right now but to say it’s “pretty bad” is just ridiculous. And I’m coming from a super competitive high school with dozens of Ivy-bound students a year, so it’s not like I’m from one of those places with a really warped view.

To sum it up…

How bad of a college is Binghamton?
It’s not.

Thanks guys! I finally convinced my mom… lol finally!

I hate when parents swear they know everything lol…

She’s so off

i know… it’s annoying i hate it. Especially asian parents
