How bad will a C look senior year?

These are my classes for senior year:
AP Lit
AP Calc AB
AP Gov
AP Physics
Guitar Ensemble
Music Theory

Right now my GPA is a 3.95 and I think Ill get all As this year except for in AP Physics in which I currently have a C. I believe this will hurt my chances at UVA and William and Mary. I may be able to drop the class thus wiping it off my transcript but then I'd only be taking 5 classes which also might not look great. What should I do? Would it really hurt me even though my GPA would probably remain the same or go up due to AP? I'm in state btw.

It will look so bad that you will have to end up going to your community college.

Would I be better off dropping it and only having 5 classes? Keep in mind it would not be seen that I dropped.

I would have 3 of science. If I was able to drop into AP Stat then Id have 5 of math. Would having 3 hurt me?

It would look worse dropping it. Stay in it. You are in state and you'll be fine

But it wouldn't be on my transcript <_<. If it was I wouldn't consider it.

Hello?? I've seen someone with a 2 in some AP who got into (gasp) Cornell, MIT, Rice... check their rankings out... he also got 610 on Maths IIC, and one or two bad grades....

I meant 3 science courses taken.

Apply UVA ED that way they cannot see the grade ;)
The only other thing you can do is forget about applying to college, go to your CC for two years and transfer to UVA anyway (assuming you live in VA from UVA & W&M)

Out of curiosity, what did the guy with a 610 on MathIIC have as a hook?

venkater that seems a bit drastic...

Most school systems in Va still have like 3 more weeks until grades are due for first quarter? Unless you started before Labor Day, which is rare in VA, but I suppose possible. Anyway, unless the already have gone in as final grades, can you try to raise it? Go ask the teacher if he thinks it's possible for you to raise it to a B before grades are due. Find out exactly what you need to do if you can (including what scores you'll need on tests), and see if you can get the B. If it's the kind of teacher where they won't help you or explain what's going on, then I don't know...if you have a friend in there with a higher grade you might ask them to help you review some stuff and explain their studying strategy and try to crunch some numbers yourself to see what you need for the B.

it might look pretty bad, since it shows that you're slacking a bit, even if this isnt the case. drop if you can, or if you really can't, stick it out and try to raise it to at least a B for the semester.

I have a B in the class now. w00t.

Good job raising it..but I have a similar problem..can anyone help?? What would happen if you took regular physics? I'm getting a C..or worse in AP Calc AB and I'm taking 4 APs and 2 other classes..I was thinking of just taking regular calc..but then my grade would carry over..so I was hoping to somehow get it curved..would your ap grade carry over into regular physics? and couldnt you raise you grade then?

UVA is a stickler about grades, in my opinion, from the feedback our counselors and parents I know have given. The admissions office insists that it gives a holistic review of all apps, and the official stance would be that it would not necessarily hurt a candidate, but I have not seen that in practice.
If you can bring the grade up by the end of the semester and bring that quarter grade of C to B, that would help, Ask your GC exactly what grades are reported at what point of apps and if there is any play in that. I know our school does have some leeway which means you can strategize as to which grades go out.

rofl. 1st quarter in ap phyz I ended up with a B+. Now in second quarter I have 100% in the class...strange world.

A "C" in some subjects is not as negative as a "C" in others, unless the "C" is in what you're planning to major in. I think schools bend a little bit with math/science. Not all teachers are good at teaching the stuff and some of it is not easy to pick up on your own. But you're moving up anyway. In the end, the teacher may curve you up to help you out.

I'm taking dual-credit courses at a local branch of a big university, and getting a C in spanish... which is really bad.
