how bad would it be to have no rank

as the title suggests, how much of a negative impact would the absence of a school rank on the School School Report on the common app have on my chances? My school is vehemently against ranking. Would it have no negative impact at all and just force the admissions officers to look at other things more heavily?

It would force them to extrapolate the percent of your class you're in based on what the school gives them.

my school doesn't rank either, but you should be happy. Class rank is the most BS part of the college app, because it is so easy to manipulate. And the fact that colleges (like UT austin) admit people solely based on rank is beyond retarded.

care to elaborate?

Lots of colleges admit lots of students who are not officially ranked.

would those include, say the top 20ish?

^ Yes, at least for internationals. My school does not rank and people were admitted to YPSM last year.

Definitely not a problem. My school doesn't rank and we send lots of students to Ivies and other top schools each year.

I don't think it matters.
My school doesn't provide any kind of rank,
but every year a bunch of people still get admitted to top 20 schools.

they wouldnt count it against u-i mean, after all, u dont decide whether ur school ranks or not.

they definitely wouldn't count it against you & would just look at other things instead

Yeah. My school does not rank and we send about twenty kids to the ivies/stanford/duke/mit each year.

At least a third of American high schools have abolished rank. They still send kids to the most selective colleges.

Don't worry about. Many high schools don't rank, colleges won't hold it against you if your school doesn't.

Our class is kind of small, less than 100 students. Depending on your size, they'll probably estimate. I'm top 1% out of like 90 or students, so I guess maybe that's why our school doesn't do class rank because it's so small.
