How badly does a 2 on an ap exam affect my chance into Ivies and other good schools?

As a sophomore this year, I took 3 APs (human geo, German, and physics b) and did decently on all of them (4 on human geo and 3 on german, which is decent for a foreign language exam) except Physics (i got a 2.) I know full well that having a 2 is not going to look good on my transcript at all, but I don't want to hide it; looking back, I definitely agree that my class was not up to par with what the test required you to know, and i want to be honest. but if a two will badly hurt my chances going into good schools like stanford, UCberkely, duke, uPenn, etc., then I'm considering hiding it on my transcript.

for my physics grade, I was holding 93s in my class. ending up with a 2 on the actual exam, i know that will make me look bad; my math grades in general are not strong really, so it's kind of understandable why i got the score. it still sucks tho

i've taken 4 aps so far (freshman year was world history, which i got a 4 in), and im taking ib next year as a junior. im also a swimmer (i've gone to several national meets and was recently accepted to the 2012-13 Scholastic All America team). i have a 3.9 gpa unweighted and a 4.6 gpa weighted, and i'm also on the newspaper staff at my school.

despite everything, will the 2 on my ap physics b exam completely screw my chances of going to a good school? how badly will it affect my admission chances? do ap scores even play a huge role in the admission process? what kind of role do they play? i keep hearing so many things...does anyone know anything definitive?

thanks!

No, it won’t. AP scores only affect you once you get accepted.

AP Scores can affect you a bit, more importantly is what grade did you get in the class, also you have junior and senior year to impress the admission officers with the awesome scores that you get on those tests. Truthfully, it’s something to consider but it’s not detrimental, and you can hide it if you would like, it’s not something to be ashamed and sometimes it doesn’t end up working out. Admissions officers is well aware that some so called AP classes will not prepare for what is to come. My truthful advice is this, at the end of junior year, look back on it but if you had an A in the class but a 2 on the exam, I would suggest not including it, people wouldn’t think of you less and it shows that you exceeded in what the class taught you, the 2 isn’t necessarily your fault, if a class says it’s going to prepare you and it doesn’t, it’s there responsibility. Don’t sweat it, just keep moving forward. :)
