particularly the intro to science classes like bio, chem, physics, etc.

im concerned about letters of recs for med school? i want a well written rec, but it may be hard if the classes are like 500+ students.

how are the letters of recommendations done at stony brook?

i realize that stony does tend to get students into good medical schools

Hi I graduated in '90 from Stony Brook as a biology major so thing could be different now. From my experience the first year science classes are very large typically around 300-400 students in a large lecture hall.
Hope this helps a little.

i just completed my first semester with intro gen chem. The class had around 600 kids in a large lecture hall. You would have to go to the professor’s office hours in order to develop good relationships with them.

Class size decreases as the courses become more specialized. So, courses like CHE 131 or 132 or the introductory biology courses will be quite large (hundreds of students), while physical chemistry may only have 40 or so students.

Classes that require increased instructor-student interface, such as writing, tend to be much smaller (15-20).
