If I apply for Econ at UCSD, I'll be missing Calc 3 as a pre-req. If I apply for Economics Management Science, I'll be missing Calc 3 and Linear Algebra as pre-reqs. Given my circumstance, which major should I select that will have a higher chance of accepting me?

I don’t think they care I know some people who have only taken calc 1 or no calc get in

Do you mean that you would not have Calc 3 done by the end of fall or you would not have it by the end of spring?

I will not have Calc 3 done by the end of Spring 2013.

they are lax with pre-reqs lol, don’t worry about it :P

Are you tagging? I think I might apply also as Econ.

I’m not tagging. I don’t think I’m eligible because I spent my Freshman year at a CSU. I’m spending my sophomore year at my local CC.

I got accepted into the major earlier this year as a tag applicant. I was taking calc 1 this spring and I ended up getting a “D”. UCSB actually denied me over the D saying that it was a requirement, but UCSD said as long as I have a college level math course (Stats taken). I sent my transcripts over and I haven’t gotten the OK just yet.

I plan to take calc 1 over the summer before I transfer if, that is if I get into the class. I’m on the waitlist…

Has anyone’s graduation been delayed because they couldn’t take calc 1 before transferring into UCSD as an econ major?

@comaeternal: Hey I was in an almost similar situation as you but I’m transferring as an Intl studies- Econ, I received a D+ when I took calc 1 during winter and I’m retaking it as we speak, however, I’m on the verge again and my finals will be 2 weeks from now… :S I recently got in off the waitlist and called UCSD admissions to ask if my D+ will affect my admission, they say as long as the overall GPA is 3.00 and the GPA for the last quarter is above 2.00 I will be fine. I’m not sure if my situation helps cos its quite different from yours, I think tag applicants has a bigger chance and I didn’t tag SD. I hope you do get in! call one of the admission reps to ask about the situation if you’re not sure :)

@adriecali whast the difference between intl studies- econ and regular econ?

I just got in as an Econ major, I was planning on going to another school as an accounting major therefore I was completing pre-req’s for that major and not Econ. I didn’t finish any of the calc classes and I was accepted so I think they’re pretty easy going on finishing pre-reqs
