I am looking at more selective schools but I’m unsure on how to talk to them about my high school years. I’ve been to four different high schools because of the lack of support. In my freshman year I was in and out of the hospital every two weeks the first semester, then in the second semester I was absent from February to May so I could be in Minnesota to go under for a TPIAT (total pancreatectomy with islet auto transplantation). Then beginning my sophomore year I had a perforation which put me out for the whole first semester due to additional complications. Then in my junior year I was on a feeding tube from December-April and in April I finally had surgery. Due to all of these events when wanting to take AP classes I was denied. Nonetheless I’ve kept straight A’s and became Student Body president. But looking at my transcript it doesn’t show my work ethic and ambition, and I just don’t want to be disadvantaged by everything I’ve gone through. So I’d be extremely grateful for any advice as I will start applying this Fall.
I would ask your guidance counselor to include something about your medical challenges in their LOR.
Sounds like you’ve overcome quite a lot and it’s no easy feat keeping up a GPA under those circumstances. Kudos. I hope you are recovering and doing much better!
