Hi guys, so i’ve been in the USA for 3 years now and i started with some ELL courses. I improved my english a lot so now i’m taking all AP courses (AP eng, APUSH, AP Bio etc). I took a practice TOEFL in the end of my sophomore year and i got 85, as soon as i thought my english would be enough to get a good score on the SAT, i started studying for it. So now i’ve been practicing since the beginning of my junior year and i recently got a 490 CR 600 MATH and about 550 on Writing. That’s pretty bad for me since the colleges i want to go mostly accept students with 600+ CR & 600+ Math. I’m going to take The official TOEFL in a month, i’m hoping to get over 100 on it but i really need to improve my CR score and i have only 3 more SATs that i can take until January (Before the application deadlines), which means i have 5-6 months to study. I’m planning to take The Princeton Review’s courses for a month during this summer and self study A LOT. (I also found some internships for summer) However, i don’t know if there is something else that i can do to improve my CR score, it would be really nice if you guys give me some advice on getting a better score(Especially if any one of you have been through the same thing, i’m being so nervous about it)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Are you sure you need the TOEFL? Generally, students who doing high school in an English language country (such as the US) do not need to take it.
I actually do not need it @bouders , but my counselor said it would actually be good to have a solid TOEFL score on my resume so i’ll take it just because of that, i’m not studying for it anymore anyway. And i always get over 550 CR on the practice tests but my actual SAT score wasn’t even close to that. Do you know where i can find practice tests that are closer to the legit SAT? @LizzieLearning

You should be able to pick up copies of the official SAT prep material at the public library. The CollegeBoard publishes sets of old exams that they are no longer using.
For good prep strategies, read through this advice from CC’s own Xiggi: http://cdn2.hubspot.net/hub/360031/file-2191783928-pdf/Documents/Xiggi_Advice.pdf?t=1433308816498
And as I’m sure your ELL teachers have already told you a million times, one of the best ways to improve your English comprehension skills (as well as your writing) is to read a wide variety of literature that is interesting to you. So pick up some novels or your favorite non-fiction when you are at the library tracking down the SAT prep materials, and read those for fun in your free time.
Believe me or not, one of the magazine for ESL students is Reader’s Digest! It is used by ESL teachers worldwide. Read through ti from cover to cover, you will learn a lot from it. Make sure you understand all the difficult words it uses and look up dictionary when needed.
