If you are trying to “improve” your activity list to impress adcoms, please stop. Your activities should be things that are of interest to YOU. In addition, it helps if you show commitment to something. A long laundry list of activities isn’t as impressive as decent quality with less.
Please…do what you enjoy…that will make your application shine.
I agree completely with @thumper1. You should do what is right for you. Also, commitment over time to a relatively short list of activities is better than having a very long list.
You also might want to Google “applying sideways, MIT admissions” and read the blog that it will take you to. The same approach has helped some of my relatives get into other highly ranked schools (not just MIT). However, what it says is pretty much what @thumper1 and I are saying: Do what is right for you, and do it very well.
