Here's what I did with a practice test.

Subject

Score Range

Right

Wrong

Omitted

Critical Reading 420 - 480 30 37 0
Writing 480 - 610
( MC: 52-62 , Essay: 6 ) 32 17 0
Math 670 - 730 48 2 4

I see m y math is way above there, writing is average, but my CR is in deep *****!!!! I want to get into UCI.

taking it on march 14 sat

You did an online test right?
I suggest you omit more and guess less.
Also, look at the passages through objective lens.

The answers are all in the passage; you just gotta find them.

I think the best way to improve your CR is to read lots of books that have some difficulty and depth in their contents. Barron has a book list in which there are lots of books recommended for you by education experts.

When I was preparing for SAT rEASONING TEST. I did lots of practice tests but I didn't read some books, and the result was my verbal didn't improve much and ended up with 560, which is quite mediocre. Anyway reading more books is the most helpful way to improve your overall reading ability.
