how can I raise my science score?

I took the act on june 10th....

English - 29 (not normal for me... on practice tests, I usually score 34 or 35)
Math - 31
Reading - 32
Science - 25
Composite...29

So, as you can see, I would have gotten a better composite had my science score been better. Any thoughts?

Study graphs inorder to better grasp the information that is being presented. Aside from that you should just take practice tests.

...Or in my case...luck.

Going to school in Canada, we have general science (bio+chem+phy+astronomy combined) for the first 2 years of high school, and then it splits into specific courses for each of the four starting from Gr.11. I've only taken 1 specialized senior science course (chemistry), so the science section was pretty much a disadvantage to me.

For the April ACT, I messed up the science section so badly, because I basically went into a panic attack after seeing the first 2 sets of questions about bio, and there wasn't really any chem. questions on it. Ended up with a 24 at the end. So I decided to retake it in June, just for good luck. And...despite that I haven't gotten my scores yet (...slow speed for Canadians), I'm pretty confident to say that I'm guaranteed a 34 on this one.

That doesn't really help your situation, but...it just demonstrates that with some skills, you still need some luck by your side.

The Science portion of the ACT really has little to with actual "Science." It is called the Science and Reasoning test for a reason. It is by far more of a test of comprehension and logic. If you pay close attention to the reading and can comprehend the graphs you can get a very good score. You need almost no actual knowledge of Science to score well on the test.

lubinli: When I took the ACT in April, I was about 95% sure I'd get a 32+ on it, I was confident on nearly all of my answers. They ended up giving me a 20. I wouldn't believe any of the scores you get, but good luck on the 34.

I started reading the questions first and then refer back to the passage/graphs, improving from 25 to 33/34, along with a bit of practice.

Patrick, you had it rescored it and it was correct. The ACT would not accidently give you a score 12 points lower than what you deserved, and then cover it up when you paid for a hand score. You could even buy a copy of your answers if are really sure they cheated you. If you bought the copy and were correct, you could get a refund and your correct score. If they did score it correctly, then at least you get to see where you made your errors and practice on those areas. Unless the second time was state testing, then you can't order it. You need to face the fact the you are a smart kid, but got the "average" score on the ACT twice. I am sure if you prepare you will do better. The first time you were stressed out when you took it and got a 22 composite, the second time you were not stressed out, but you likely made the same mistakes as you did the first time. If the ACT 's results were inaccurate, don't you think it would have been discovered by now?
