So I’m ranked 14/512 in a high school were we have a lot of 10-15 AP course takers. I’ll have 9 in total myself which is kinda low.
My main dilemma is how come I suck at SAT ACT? My SAT is only 1400 and ACT 30. I have an pretty chill time in the classes I’ve taken and I’ve seen the people I know with 1500 SAT or 34s struggle on other tests in school :/. ( I have 102% in AP Physics RN lol) I’m not the most linear person, which could be the problem, because I’m also quite creative. I love STEM but I’ve spent my high school working on my creativity, my health and my happiness. Which is tradeoff to higher scores I guess, cause some of the other kids are miserable lol.
Im preparing for my last chance in December SAT/ACT with Khan Academy and actually taking timed practice test now but, I’m not sure how much better I can do. Anyone else feel the same way? I know I shouldn’t compare myself but my scores make me feel dumb.

I can’t help you to find an answer that will move your score, but I think you have some answers of a sort in your own statements. Go with that, and start from where you are, but go with that.
Standardized testing isn’t for everyone and in all actuality doesn’t do a very good job of capturing how “smart” you are. That being said, you know you’re smart seeing as you do really well in class which is a better measure of a wider range of your abilities. I wouldn’t sweat it. Just study as much as you can for this test but try not to stress yourself out too much.
Good luck on your December test! I’m crossing my fingers for you and even if it doesn’t go as planned, just by reading this post I already know you’re bound to get into a good school. Take a deep breath, it’ll work out in the end.
First of all, a 1400 on the SAT is really good. You should be very proud of that score.
Your SAT score matches up pretty good with your class rank.
14th / 512 = 2.73% (all students)
1400 on SAT = 4.1% (college interested students)
How many of your 512 class will go to college? That should be a better representative of the number of kids that took the SAT. Divide you 14th ranking by that estimation and you will be closer to 4% from your SAT score.
30 on ACT is top 5%, similar percentile at SAT score. Again those are only kids heading to college, not entire class.
Do you read for fun? Do you learn new words for fun?
But the short of it is, some people are good at standardized tests and some are not. You are good at it, but maybe not excellent.
I don’t think a 1400 SAT score would keep you from even the top colleges, if the rest of your app fits in. Yeah, it’s not a boost, but I think it is neutral not bad.
