How comparable is Imperial to Ivies in prestige and reputation?

I know it won't be as good as HYP but how does imperial compare with other us Ivies duh as UPenn,Cornell, brown and Columbia?

As well as caltrain MIT etc in terms of prestige/reputation (wow factor) and how famous it is in Asia and the western world?

*caltech apologies for spelling

Wow. Looking at universities through the lense of prestige and reputation. A great combination for a horrible time. Choice of a UK institution vs one in the US comes down to where you want to live.

For the prestige whores, you would pick the ivies but in the UK, you are doing one major and hence while Harvard is a great college, deciding to major in engineering isn’t a great choice in comparison to MIT/CalTech or Imperial.

Go where you enjoy it. It cannot emphasise enough that prestige and rep should be the smallest factors in choosing a college. Do I know a Harvard MBA with their UG from Texas AM? Yes. Do I know a Harvard MBA fron MIT? Yes. Moral of the story is you have to open your own doors.

Now if research is your thing in the future, pick MIT/CalTech but if you want to pick the most prestigious place for a shot at high finance, you might as well throw U of Mich or Georgetown in the mix.

If I were to poll my friends in the U.S., I think only the first-generation Brits would recognize Imperial College. Even from that sample, I am sure that some have not heard the name.

Almost all will recognize Oxford and Cambridge, and most will recognize the London School of Economics.
