How competitive is admission to the EE program here, and how similar is computer engineering?

I've seen all the horror stories about how hard it is to get into the CSE program, but I haven't seen anyone talk about the EE department. The statistics said that it had a ~50% acceptance rate with an average GPA a little lower than CSE, is there much else to be said about it(Such as how much they take essays and such into consideration)?

I initially applied to the school for the CSE department. I'm still waiting on a decision there, but if I get directly admitted then I might want to stay in the department to secure my spot, but that mostly depends on what the computer engineering program is like. Would I still get a sufficient education to work as an electrical engineer, or does it pretty much restrict my options to software and robotics?

I was just admitted to the EE department for Spring quarter. The selectivity varies a little from quarter to quarter. . You can find the admissions statistics online at https://www.ee.washington.edu/operations/advising/UGAdmissionsStatistics.html</a>
Also, an advisor in the EE department told me that the essay can keep a student with a 3.9 out if it is terrible, and could get a student with a 2.8 in if it is awesome.
