I just got accepted to HKUST for engineering with a 85% conditional in ISC. (India)

Honestly, I was a bit surprised because HKUST is very well ranked globally. As far as I remember, it is even ranked higher than Cornell for Computer Science.

That makes me wonder, shouldn't a well ranked college be more competitive and tougher to get into? Any Honk Kong students out there? Is HKUST easier for you guys or tougher?

Also, most of my friends who applied for HKUST engineering have also got their acceptances. Anyone knows any rejects? Does HKUST publish its acceptance rate?

I am simply curious as to where HKUST stands in term of prestige. How does it compare to HKU, NUS and the IITs.

Congrats bro , also it would be very helpful if you could tell me when did you apply.
I am an ISC student myself and haven’t gotten my decision yet.

@Aridaman
Thanks! I applied on Dec 15. (regular) and got my offer on Jan 21. Most of the engineering applicants from my school got their offers within 30 - 45 days. The business applicants took a lot longer. (One of them applied early and is still awaiting his decision. He has had 2 interviews till now.)

HKUST engineering for international or non-JUPAS students is very, very uncompetitive. Last year people from our school who were very average to below average were accepted by HKUST.

But don’t let that put you off. It’s like that because there simply isn’t a lot of demand for a HKUST education for internationals compared to similar demand for UK/US universities, which is why non-local students get in much easier. So you’ll be studying with many of China’s brightest: an opportunity you would normally may not have gotten.

Hello dubyawhy, do you know anything about hkust business? It seems business school is more competitive… And have u applied any schools in hk this year?

Hey guys. I’ve applied in the late round for HKUSt with 96% as my 12th aggregate. I’ve not got my acceptance yet. Is it possible for me to get engineering in hkust. Please someone reply.

i am currently in 12th and in cbse curriculum. i am planning to apply for hkust. i got cgpa 10 in 10th. i dont have too many extra curricular achievements in high school. i am a non-jupas student. i am sure of getting more than 95% in the boards. what are my chances?

Hey guys ! I am also applying for hkust in this year… Currently in 12th grade(ISC)… Obtained 94.4 in 10th… How much should I aim for in 12th ?? Do not have many extracurriculars and my 11th result was pretty bad so what do u guys think ?

@Jacksparrow007 - HKUST does take your 11th Std. grades into consideration. The application form requires us to upload our exam transcripts of the previous four years.
My 11th grades were decent. Bordering on 87-88% in the final exams.
So have you guys already submitted your application forms? Or are you waiting for the late round to begin?

Unless you are born to extremely wealthy parents, going to hkust would really require one to get a scholarship. And I have a feeling that only a few international students get admitted with a scholarship from hkust [just a gut feeling]. However there are several private scholarships that one can look for. And there are also certain Indian organisations that sponsor Indian students. You may look up online for such organisations.

Okay, please if anyone could answer this query of mine.
My teachers gave an expected results of 95in two subjects 90 in two subjects and 85 in one subject. Despite this I have been rejected by HKUST before the class 12 results.
Furthermore I have represented my school in Football Tennis and Debating and was a council member.
Any idea what could be the reason for my rejection.
It is really bothering me.
