How competitive is NYU?

I'm in LOOOOOOOVE with NYU, but I'm not sure if I'll even get in.

I have a crazy low gpa b/c of frosh and soph years (hard years), but I'm doing much much better now. My SAT's, SAT 2's are really goooood (2300+/700+) and I'm expecting 4 5's and 1 4 on my AP exams in May.

My EC's are pretty good and also I work a job (20 hr+ weeK frosh and soph years) and 26 hrs weekly this year.

I'm expecting good/great recommendations. I'm interested in being a premed.

And I'm also interested in CAS @ NYU.

I'm also from NY and I'm Indian if that makes any difference.

Please help a super worried junior out!!!

Love ya.

I think a good GPA is most important. My girl friend got in CAS with 3.89 and several activities from a T50 business school. So I think if you can boost up your GPA pretty much, you will have a decent shot. It is competitive but not as hard as ivies. GOOD LUCK!

Will Seimen’s Semis guarantee acceptance considering my other stats?

Seriously, bros.

How low is your GPA? Thats a big factor.

3.3ish maybe?

I had a 3.29, only 2180 SAT and got in. In in Tisch for drama though, so the audition was also a part of it. But it’s definitely possible.

Tisch doesn’t weigh academics as much as CAS though, right?

Do you know anyone at CAS that got in with GPA as low as mine?

Thanks for the encouragement though :)

CAS’s standards are much more grade based then Tisch and Gallitan, and some programs in Steinhardt.

I know!

I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED NYU.

it sounds to me like you have a pretty good chance! you have stellar test scores and great ECs, so hopefully the GPA won’t cause you not to get in. use the rest of this year and fall semester next year to get your GPA up. you sound like you are smart, and hopefully nyu will see that, but you’ll never know unless you apply. good luck, and don’t worry too much!

I agree, you have a solid shot. As long as you show steady improvement grade-wise in your transcript, your SAT score should compensate for your GPA.

solid? :frowning:

solid means good jbubbles, whats with the sad face??

and what does 10char mean, you keep saying that

Haha, since you need at least 10 characters for each post and when I write short stuff like that, I just put in “10char” (10 characters) to fulfill that requirement.

Are you at NYU, btw?

oh haha I never noticed you had to have 10…no I’m not at nyu (I wish!! haha) but I hope to be next year! I probably have less chance than you do though. I have good SAT scores (not amazing like you though) and an okay gpa…ugh I HAVE to get in there or I don’t know what I’ll do!!

good luck, I bet you’ll get in and even if you don’t, with your test scores and everything, you’ll get in somewhere great!

haah even with a 3.2-3ish gpa? oh how i regret messing up.

ah that’s cool!! :)

good luck! and let me know if you need help with anything!

haha I regret messing up too. I could’ve done SO SO much better in high school if I’d known how much it would help in college apps!! Its going to break my heart if I don’t get in somewhere b/c I’m smarter than my GPA (and obviously you are too! look at those test scores!!)

good luck to you too, and same to you! I can’t believe in a few months we’ll know if we got in or not! ahhhh
