Right now, I suppose I'm all over the place, so I was wondering if some current Stanford students/graduates/anyone really could look this over to see if this is possible.

Major: Neurobiology (or something to that equivalent such as Neuroscience)
Major: Linguistics
Minor: Italian or German (I just really want to minor in a language if possible)

Does this look even partially doable? I'm not sure if there would be a way to combine my interest in neurobiology and linguistics into one major to lighten the load. But honestly, I think it would be nice to have a harder science major with my linguistics major as that will definitely help with job opportunities.

Thank you so very much!! Feel free to make suggests on other majors/minors or way to make this thing happen.

Your major doesn’t necessarily have to reflect your career path. For instance, my mom is a German major, but she works as a software engineer. So, you could major in neuroscience (if you want) and just supplement that with as many ling/lang classes you want, or vice versa.

They seem very “combinable.” Remember that linguistics requires 2 years of a foreign language. Neurobiology is an interdisciplinary field that has presence in the school of medicine, the school of humanities/sciences, etc. For you, I’d think either psychology or symbolic systems for a major.

In short, it’s very doable. You just have to pick the courses right, and to coordinate your majors/minors. Your interests (at least to me) indicate possible significant overlap in courses, so remember that Stanford allows you to count the credits of one course toward one major only (you can take additional units in this major to make up for the “lost units”).

Since your two interests are rather different yet still very cominable, it’s hard to come up with a plan for you. Since this is my specialty, send me a PM! :)
