How did our UF hopefuls do at FSU?

I cannot believe FSU had 61,000 apps. Crazy. I read online that they accepted 17,800 + and expect to enroll 6000. Wondering how the UF hopefuls did on Thursday with FSU? Accepted/ rejected/ spring/ summer/ stats?

Accepted Fall FSU

YOU?

61000 is a ton of apps… i bet their acceptance rate % is lower than UF at this point…

i wonder of the 45k apps UF will get, how many of 45k applied to FSU? i bet 75% applied to FSU . thoughts… I’m sure the out of state are most of the non duplicates…

@jhmoney my daughter is a Junior so I’m closely watching everyone’s results this year. Congratulations to your daughter!

@jhmoney i have no idea but I would assume most instate kids apply to both. The ones that I hear of all apply to both.

One data point, my senior did not apply to FSU but did to UF. Son 2 years ago did the same.
We are Gators and they would rather go to UCF than FSU. Actually, I am not sure which school they would choose FSU over…

Gators don’t go to FSU!

@Gatormaam I know a bunch of Gators who have kids at FSU. Admissions is a different dynamic than it was 25-30 years ago. I cannot imagine how the parents deal with it, but they do.

I am fortunate that we are 1 for 1 so far with UF admissions. Cautiously optimistic this year with #2.

@fl1234 I totally meant it tongue in cheek. The competition to get in and acceptance rates are unbelievable. Best of luck to all.

My son and most of his friends applied to FSU even though UF is their first choice. About a half dozen boys, all top 10%, with GPAs of 4.2+ and SATs of 1350+ all got into FSU.

Kids with lower scores did not.

I made both of my kids apply to FSU. They didn’t want to as we are a very orange and blue household and family.

@fl1234 a couple years ago, one of my UF fraternity brothers posted images of him moving his son into the FSU dorms. I said: “you are living my nightmare!”

@GatorDad305 we traveled last year with an FSU mom who lived in Tallahassee. Her son had a near perfect resume and was accepted to FL, but not to FSU. She was having a really hard time handling her new orange and blue reality.

I don’t think so. My nephew applied to UF and UCF, but would NOT apply for FSU. There are some anti-FSU high schools, some anti UF schools. At my kids’ high school, there were a lot of FSU kids who didn’t apply to UF.

The math is not straightforward.

I would suggest that kids who are in state public university bound probably apply to both.

But there are certainly family biases that come into play.

We are a Gator family with a second year FSU daughter, who chose FSU over UF Pace. She had a similar gpa to my son and a 32 ACT, and received the Freshman scholarship at FSU. While I tried to convince her otherwise at the time, FSU has been amazing for her, and for us as parents. We are super excited about our son’s FSU acceptance, and it will be a hard decision if he gets into UF.

D was accepted for fall.

Glad to have an in state, inexpensive option that she is enthusiastic about. UF is still the 1st choice right now, but I feel like she would be happy at either.

Best of luck to all!

D accepted for fall with Benacquisto Scholarship for NMF. She also applied to UF but is really torn between the two schools. She is actually leaning slightly toward FSU. Once decisions from UF come out, we will probably visit both. We are OOS. I think it’s so funny how there is such a strong rivalry between the two schools and resulting strong preferences for one over the other. My D has a classmate whose dream school is FSU and when he found out she applied to both his reply was “Don’t be a Gator. Just don’t.” LOL.
