How did you send in your tax papers to UCLA?

This may sound silly, but should I Fed-Ex my tax papers to UCLA so I can track it down to have reassurance that they have received it? The financial aid person told me I can walk to the office and just 'drop it off'. I'm from San Diego so it's only two hours to drive to Westwood... Suggestions?

P.S. My parents own a restaurant so the tax papers are 30+pages and with mine... over 50 pages.

Jenn, I’d just send it rather than actually physically traveling there yourself to deliver it. However, if you’re down to drive 4 hours back and forth (which isn’t that bad since I did it a few weeks ago while going down to LA/SD for spring break) just to sleep better knowing it’d get there, then do that. Depends on how valuable time is for you and how much you can bare the horrendous LA traffic.

jen, why do you need to take tax papers to UCLA? i’m very curious. they don’t need or want to look at your taxes.

i guess , financial aid?

yes, but if they needed to audit your information they would do so after acceptance.

Sopheee, I’m able to see my financial aid information on URSA. It says incomplete though. So, I called the financial aid advisor, (who looked into my info with my UCLA ID) he informed me to print out the verification forms on the web and mail that in along with my tax papers. Thus, you are wrong; they do need and want to see my tax papers.

robbay, for some reasons my parents told me over and over again to make sure no one should see their tax papers besides the schools I’ve been admitted to. I’m not sure why though; hence, I’ll probably send it in securely and or take a trip to the school myself.

jennn, what forms did they ask you to send?

SkWz, the guy said to go on [UCLA Financial Aid Office - Forms | Petitions | Verification Forms](http://www.fao.ucla.edu/forms.html) and depending whether or not you are dependent or independent, send those verification forms in with your copies of your tax papers. I think it’s only for those who has been asked to send them in though. Does it say incomplete on your URSA financial aid summary?

seriously though jenn. fax over your taxes to the admissions office. they’ll want all 30 copies of your tax report asap, or else you might be rejected.

jennn:

they really need your tax information asap. most decisions are being processed on monday. without your tax info, they won’t be able to process your admission, therefore making you an invalid applicant.

i don’t have their fax number… but you should check their admissions website. i know if i were in your position i’d fax my tax information asap.

it’d be a miracle if i saw you on transfer day.

Eh, if the theories are true about the financial aid summary being shown on URSA – I’m pretty sure I’m accepted, regardless of my 50 page tax papers being turned it or not. Worse comes to worse… no free money for college. My parents tax papers are 30 pages for a reason… they make a lot of money.

So weezy baby, what is your name? I’ll pretend I’m a teenbopper once more and make a sign with your name on it. I’ll hold it up in the middle of the quad, in front of Powell.

sorry i have a girlfriend. nt though.

Ahhhhhahahahahaha. No offense, but I wasn’t trying to holler at you and I will never forgive myself if I tried to jock at someone that refers himself as a baby. [Honestly, no puns intended.]

“they really need your tax information asap. most decisions are being processed on monday. without your tax info, they won’t be able to process your admission, therefore making you an invalid applicant.”

When has ‘tax information’ been such a critical component of admission. I would like to presume you were only kidding or purposely misleading the already frantic Jenn. I would disregard this character completely, and wait for the decisions to come out and act accordingly. It’s not that big of a deal in terms of your admission. Good day.

It says the same thing on URSA for me jennnnnnnnnn.

FAFSA RECD FROM CENTRAL PROC Completed 4-17-2009
ESTIMATED TAX STATUS ON FAFSA Not Received

I’m not sure if that’s what you’re talking about or not.
I’m just gonna wait to become officially accepted before I do anything, I don’t completely trust these sketchy backdoor methods, and am not going to get excited over them.

how did u know that they want yor income tax papers…?? can you guys upload a screen shot ?? Mine says complete, although I never sent anything in… bad sign for me ??

[That incomplete part refers to the UCLA verifications and tax returns.] I’m going with the financial aid adviser and just going to Fed-Ex all my tax papers in on Monday. Personally, I need to know how much money UCLA will offer me so I can compare it to other school’s offerings.

When I submitted my FAFSA, I indicated on the form that I hadn’t yet filed my tax return, since I submitted it before I received my W-2 forms. I’m sure all the information UCLA has about my financial situation comes solely from my FAFSA. After I’m officially accepted, I’ll submit any paperwork they request.
I don’t think it’s something worth losing sleep over before you find out whether or not you’re even accepted. I’m seriously thinking about going to UCSB just so I won’t have to be around all the kids who believe success in life lies entirely upon whether or not they go to Cal or UCLA. If the transfers are like this, then I can only imagine what all the overachiever fresh-from-high-school kids are like.

phattie, I have honestly no idea why they want my tax return papers. I was advised to; therefore, I will. Usually, if they ask for it… it means you’re accepted.
