3 Questions..
1) While I was in the shadows lurking around the forums, some posters claim that AP Environmental science and AP Computer science are the easiest, and therefore disliked by adcoms. Perhaps APUSH wins happy points from the adcoms?

2) Our AP chem teacher has been disliked in our school, who grades awkwardly. If one takes HP chem instead, with the same GPA boost, will the adcoms frown?

3) Are we allowed to take more than two of the same subjects ? For example AP Bio and Physics B. The only way to do all the AP's in our school, if you were extreme, would have to have 7 AP's junior/senior year including zero period.

Thanks to any CCers who have enough patience with me to answer my questions.

PS: I think this is the best section to post this, as HSL is a bit sarcastic and AP section not very active

I’ll give you my perspective, from a senior in a small, private high school :)

1) At our school, APES (Environmental) is seen as somewhat of a joke, but an AP is an AP and it looks good to colleges. As for AP Comp Sci, I personally took it last year and it’s far from easy. There’s a reason that you only need a 70% on the AP test to get a 5…

2) I’m assuming HP stands for “Honors Placement” or something similar. I’d probably go with the AP (if you can) and just try to get through it with a decent grade. It’ll look better to adcoms than not taking the most challenging class just to avoid harsh grades. YMMV.

3) You’re ALLOWED to do whatever you want, as long as your school won’t explode if you do it. I’m personally taking 2 math, 2 science, and an English class this year, with a history elective thrown in second semester. Only 3 of these classes are APs. At my school, this is one of the most challenging schedules possible (EXTREMELY tough teachers in every class thanks to the small, private academically-based school). You probably don’t have to take EVERY AP as long as you have a challenging schedule for your school. Honestly, as long as the classes are difficult, you can probably take whatever you want.

Ap Environmental Science and Human Geography (I know it’s not on the list) aren’t likely to be very useful APs, just saying. Also, APUSH was super easy, at least to me…

If you think you can do AP Chem, go for it (if you’re up for taking the exam and all, I mean). Don’t just try to avoid taking it because you’re worried about the teacher’s grading. I don’t think the adcoms will frown upon you taking honors instead of AP though.

Hey thanks kabizzle and LaTina for the responses.

Well its a couple of days before school starts, so no AP Chem for me w/o the summer assignment. I’d rather not take chances with the AP chem anyways, Im very sissy, Ill stick with HP.

This brings up another question though, (pardon all the questions). I hear that if you get a B or C in an AP class for example , and in the exam you get a 4 or 5, the teacher would bump the grade to an A for both semesters? This sounds very reassuring.

Again, thanks for helping another dude going through the admissions process

My suggestion is to take AP chem instead of HP Chem, because the more ap’s you take, the better the rigor of your courseload will be; this is probably the most important admissions factor. And by all means double up on science or any subject, it looks better and it shows that you really like that subject. Good Luck :)
