How do colleges decide to send brochures to people?

is it based off SAT score? ACT score? PSAT? AP Score? everything?

You can sign up for the Student Search Service through the Collegeboard when you sign up for/take the PSAT/SAT/SAT II's as well on their website.

I'm not sure what the ACT offers.

yeah they got your address from the SSS. who gets it depends on which college sends it. sometimes they might decide to send to all juiors/seniors who scored above 1400. sometimes they might send to minorities who score above xxxx. or other times they might send to low-income students with high GPA.

You can just go to the websites of the schools that you are interested in and sigh up for their mailing list.

Brown and Wash U. But none from any other Major Univ.
His SAT is at or below average for these schools,
but he self report an average in his classes.
Wonder if Brown and Wash Univ. know that he scored 2000
in his SAT? Did the colleges get his SAT I and II score
from the CollegeBoard Search Service, or do they just
get an address and demographic information?

fwsfwefwefwefwe

Don't put much emphasis on the mailings. Look at the material if you like, but it is basically just junk mail.

its just marketing and can be based on any criteria the buyer (eg college) chooses.

According to those friendly folks at the College Board that administer the tests and sell data to colleges, on the web page advertising their services to buyers

Define the students you want to reach by choosing from two dozen variables including geographic location, ethnicity, high school GPA, class ranking, SAT score ranges, religion, intended college major, college preferences, and school and community activities, among others.

This is from http://www.collegeboard.com/highered/ra/sss.html

WashU will send a truckload of mail to any college senior whose address they can get their hands on. :)

I don't think I received anything to "occupant" but that could happen this year. If you are not homeless, are a current student....you are their kinda target. Not much else is required.
