I was just wondering how colleges weight GPA. At my school, we don’t weight GPA, however, it’s implied that you get one extra point for Honors and AP courses (as per the UC system). Will colleges do this? Will they give no points to honors, half a point, or a whole point?
I have been to several info sessions where admissions says they re weight gpas, but they did not give specifics. Likely that different schools do it differently, but most would take into account APs, honors and overall rigor of the high school
It depends on the college how, or even if, they weight. While UC’s make their metrics known to the general public, most universities do not.
Some do some don’t. Most don’t divulge there systems. So don’t go crazy trying to figure out what your GPA might be, it’s only an estimate of your strength as a student anyway.
all colleges do it slightly different but the usual is +.5 for honors and +1.0 for AP. Some colleges dont wiegh honors at all only AP. It’s not super important but it does differentiate between say a 3.8 in all reg classes and a 3.8 in mostly honors/ap classes. Rigor of your school is important and so is your rank if your school ranks.
Every college is different. Some weight, others don’t. Some schools even recalculate GPAs based on academic classes only. Very few schools make public exactly how they break down/analyze the GPAs of applicants.
