How do current Varsity players at MIT balance their work and their sport?

im applying to MIT RD and i was interested in playing lacrosse

only worries are that it would be impossible to handle both the committment of a sports team and the workload attributted to mit

anyone have experiences they would like to share?

anyone play MIT lacrosse? what was the caliber of play? I never played for my school’s lacrosse team because they are insanely good and top of the league so all the big traveling team players took the spots

It was a long time ago that I played varsity sports at MIT. However, I don’t think a lot has changed. Practices are usually late afternoon or evening, minimizing any conflicts with classes. Games are usually local and travel (and therefore lost class time) is minimal.

Varsity sports do take time and you have to become organized with your class assignments. I found that I had better grades when my sport was in season because I was forced to be organized (rather than letting things slide ASSUMING I had plenty of time to complete my assignments).

Although MIT is division 3 in most sports, the teams are competitive and most athletes have played in high school. There is still opportunities to play if you haven’t played in high school, but it will require a dedication to your sport to make yourself better at it.

Even if you don’t play varsity sports, there are club level sports and an extensive intramural program at MIT.
