I'm trying to fill out my college apps and there's a section that it asks for a counselor to fill out.. GPA, Class Rank and whatnot. It's not that I don't want the colleges to know that stuff. I mean, OF COURSE they're going to know. I just don't want my counselor to fill out the part where it asks the questions about me as a person (i.e. Creativity, Intellect). The counselor I had for the last 3 years retired and now I'm stuck with this new lady who doesn't know me AT ALL and has the nastiest attitude (she told this Black kid that AP classes were only for White people). I don't see her writing anything good about me on my applications... So what do I do?

I already sent my transcripts to the schools. Now I just need to send my applications... I already have 2 excellent letters of recommendations from my teachers, so would it be ok if I just sent the apps without the counselor part, or would that count as an incomplete application?

I would fill it out myself, but it says in big bold print for the counselor too fill out. I don't want to accused of fraud or anything....

Please help me.

Thanks for the help

For the Common App, which I think is what you’re talking about, the official school report needs to be filled out by a counselor. If you don’t like your counselor, maybe your school has a college counselor that you can talk to/ask to do your report and recommendation? If not, you’re basically stuck. Just ask the meanie counselor and hopefully she’ll be nice.

Actually, none of them use the Common Application… But they all still have a section where it asks for a counselor to fill it out. Would it count as incomplete if I just unattached that part? I mean, I already have my recommendations, and they already have my transcripts…

It would be incomplete. Depending on where you’re applying to, the counselor recommendation may not be required (i.e. Arizona State. Even the Honors College only “recommended” letters of rec… and I was accepted before I got around to sending mine in). However, if it’s a part of the actual application, then you most likely have to make sure your counselor sends them a letter of recommendation, or else they won’t consider your app.

A counselor is usually needed to answer questions about an applicant’s rank and gpa. If they require this from your counselor you probably can’t get around it. The counselor’s rating of your creativity/intellect is probably going to be looked at with less weight than that of a teacher that has taught you and watched you interact in the classroom anyway.

There’s no need for so much hate towards your counselor. I heard bad things about mine but she turned out to be a nice person as well as reliable.
