I’m a senior about to become a freshman in college and I’m starting to worry about the courses I registered for. I was talking to some of my friends already in college and they were telling me about how most of the people they know have changed their majors at least once. Most of them didn’t know what they wanted to do and wasted so much time and money on courses that they didn’t even need to take.
I’m just feeling really lost and don’t want to go into college being the only one who doesn’t know what they want to do.
About half of the people who apply to college apply undecided and figure things out when they get there. FWIW my D did not decide on her path until her junior year of college and things turned out just fine.
Here are some suggestions as you start college —
–Take different subjects and see what strikes you.
–Start to think about what you enjoy, what subjects you are best at etc., what environments you like and the answers to those questions may help to direct you.
–If your college has a career center (most do) you can visit it first semester and discuss things with a professional there – sometimes career centers have aptitude tests you can take, shadowing opportunities with alums etc. so take advantage of the resources available to you there.
(Also please do not post the same question in multiple forums. The duplicate thread has been deleted)
Thank you! I have been looking stuff up online but I just feel like I don’t have a good grasp on what my passions can lead to. For example, I’ve been playing the guitar for almost my whole life and I love it, but can I really make a career out of this? I just wish I could talk to someone who knew what they were doing or something more personal
