I am currently in 7th grade. I know that middle school grades dont matter but i need to know what to do in high school to get into stanford. I am an all a's student (no a minuses). This year ive already completed algebra 1 and am part way through algebra 2. Next year, in eight grade, i will complete geometry and pre calc. The reason i can do four high school classes in two middle school years is because im in ATYP Academically Talented Youth Program. I just wanted to tell you guys about what im doing in middle school. Now i need to know what to do in high school. I know i have to get the best grades, take the hardest classes, and get really good test scores. Btw, if i take advanced physics, advanced calculus, honors biology, honors chemistry, biochemistry, AP Physics, AP chemisty, and AP biology, would that help me? And how much? So what i really want to know is what classes to take to major in engineering, probably aerospace, ill probably play 2 sports at least 1 so do i need to do more extracurriculars? and how many? How important is a leadership role, community service, and starting your own club or something? How important are teacher recommendations? Please answer as many questions as possible, thanks.

First of all, know that you are not alone. I am in eighth grade, and i am feeling the same way as you. I got lots of info when i reaserched on the internet.
here is some info-

A great high school (one that is a traditional feeder to the top universities)
matters more than anything else – but don’t lose hope if you’re at an average
high school – just be prepared to work harder and more innovatively

Use your summers wisely to accumulate both international experiences and
entrepreneurial experiences

Spending money helps, but be careful where you spend it. For instance,
attending the Harvard Summer Program can be a great experience and an edge
in Ivy League admissions, but I wouldn’t spend $2000 to have a “professional”
edit your admissions essays

Grades make a big difference until you pass the “academic bar”. At that
point, the marginal effort required (for instance, to raise an SAT score from
2300 to 2350) isn’t worth it

Set yourself apart from those with similar backgrounds. An Asian-American
who excels at math is common. An Asian-American who is a two-sport varsity
athlete isn’t, and admissions committees will remember that

Starting a club is the fastest way to achieve a leadership position

Prepare your application carefully. In particular, two components that make
a huge difference are your resume/brag-sheet and your essay responses

Tailor your application for each school. As an example, Stanford values
innovation and entrepreneurship. Demonstrate the entrepreneurism you’ve
exhibited. Harvard values intellectual depth. Market the college-level
academic work you’ve already completed, the college-level research that
you’ve done, any scientific or academic publications, etc.

Depth is more important than breadth. It comes down to a compelling
story. It comes down to a clear spike. Show passion for a specific area (eg,
Science, History, Music) while demonstrating solid performance in the other
key categories (academics and extracurricular involvement)

here are some websites that might help-

[SATSCORES[/url]

I’m going to take the hardest classes my school offers to me too, my freshman scedule is

Honors English
Honors Biology (or AP Environmental Science)
AP Human Geography
Honors Geometry
I’ve auditioned for Chamber Orchestra, which is a weighted grade also
Spanish I
Gym

Also, dont get stressed out, too much stress will kill your chances.
I want to go to Stanford too, because it has one of the most prestigious science programs in the country, and i want to be a oncologist (cancer doctor) or a gynecologist, or a neurobiologist.
Good Luck, and I hope I see you at Stanford in a few years
p.s.-btw, you are doing great so far!

First of all, enjoy the rest of middle school and relax you guys. Second, no that’s about it for now. Check back in 3-4 years.

Thanks for all of the advice i just have a few questions.
- How great of a high school do u mean? The high school im going to attend is currently ranked 162 academically in the U.S.
- Is being on the varsity team important or is JV good too? Because my high school is very very good at sports especially football and baseball my two sports. I will definitely make varsity senior year but is it really important how many years you were on varsity?
- Did u know im asian-american? I’m half asian half caucasian.

P.S. by the looks of youe schedule and how much you know about this stuff it seems like youre doing great so far, too.

I’m telling you right now. Finish your homework for tonight, go to school, go home Friday and party all weekend because you are in 7th grade and don’t need to be stressing about college acceptances till junior year. I started sophomore year and am fille with stress and nervousness and I still have 1+ years till D-Day.

I and Chandra, there’s a 3 between 2 and 4… I’ll blame it on the fact you’re in 8th grade.

first of all im in 7th grade. second when i started typing that u hadnt posted yet

That’s why I referenced Chandra as the 8th grader, not you.

How great of a high school do u mean? The high school im going to attend is currently ranked 162 academically in the U.S.
I meant high ranking as in top 50-60, but that dosent really matter if you are below that, it is just a small plus

Is being on the varsity team important or is JV good too? Because my high school is very very good at sports especially football and baseball my two sports. I will definitely make varsity senior year but is it really important how many years you were on varsity?
yes, because if you are going to put it on your college application, you need to go very deep into your extracurricular

Did u know im asian-american? I’m half asian half caucasian.
im indian.

eagle69, just a little typo

Haha I know. I’m just giving you guys a hard time. Just don’t get too crazy about colleges yet. Look and see what you like, but don’t fret. Enjoy it.

btw eagle what colleges r u gonna apply to?

First bit of advice… don’t take advice from someone only a year older than you who is also still in junior high.

Second bit of advice… don’t worry about a specific school’s admissions, ESPECIALLY now

Third bit of advice… do the best you can in high school, follow your passions, and enjoy your days… that is all any school (including stanford) wants.

^Exactly. I will be applying to BC, Notre Dame, Duke, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, St. Olaf, UMinnesota, UWisconsin, Pepperdine. And maybe Rice.

i think stanford wants more than that. if i did what i want i wouldnt do any homework, would sleep through every class, would skip tons of school, and go to school at noon everyday.

crazymonster-dont take this offensively, but i’m just telling xTIGERSFAN35x here what i know, and youre probably a senior now, so you probably know WAAAY more things that i do. I can just see that xTIGERSFAN35x has been in one of the exact same situations that i have been, and i am saying what i have learned from it.

xTIGERSFAN35x- no matter what stuff i tell you, one of the things that i have come to see is not to worry at all. You are still in jr. high, and you SHOULD NOT worry unless you totally bomb school, which i highly doubt you do.

^^then maybe Stanford isn’t for you? What are you going to do when you get there? With no parents or rules directing you. Just some food for though.

what am i going to do? learn, live, and get the credentials i need to live a happy fulfilling life, achieve my dreams, meet new intellectual induviduals, get the experience of my life, and many more
with no parents or rules directing you- they have rules at stanford, by the way, and as i said before, i am just telling xTIGERSFAN35x what i know. i am also just telling xTIGERSFAN35x not to be stressed out becuase it never helped me in my situation. Is Stanford really for me? Why dont we find out when i apply and get the results?

Sigh… The double ^^ means two posts up… And I understand Stanford has rules, but none that pertain to going to class and not doing homework.

Also, your situation as an eighth grader is not a situation. And second, just because you get in, does not mean that you should go there.

eagle69- im so sorry, i had no idea when i thought your post was pertaining to me, i didnt really get the gist of your message. So sorry. no hurt feelings? :)
