How do I go about getting in

You sound like an overall really competetive candidate, just make sure you get involved with as much as you can while being able to maintain a healthy focus on academics...

Ok
Will a personal pilots liscence help in getting into UTP or does whoever want to join in their 1st class year just join?

To get into UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) from the Academy all you really have to do is be Pilot Qualified and pass the Flight Screening Program and your pretty much in. But, getting in ENJJPT is quite more difficult.

P.S. I recommend you getting the book, "The Air Force Academy Candidate Book" by William L. Smallwood and Sue Ross because it will answer all of your questions.

What is that and how do you get in.

ENJJPT (Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training) is only for people who want to go for the Bomber/Fighter tracks. Only a few are selected by merit at the Academy. You are almost guaranteed to go if you are a soaring instructor and have a 3.0+ GPA. Here this will explain more:

Or
Here is more information explaining UPT:

When are you able to join the ENJJPT?

And how do you become a soaring instructor?

Yea man, DONT BURN YOURSELF OUT. like airforce16 said "You sound like an overall really competetive candidate, just make sure you get involved with as much as you can while being able to maintain a healthy focus on academics..." don't be like me and tried to be superman and managed to fail two classes. Notice how I'm still in the fight. I won't give up on the academy untill im too old. So don't lose hope. Motivation and time management is the key.

I know im just excited and wish i could be there now. Ill keep an eye on my grades and others thanks.

Haha so full of questions, try looking them up in previous threads or on this site as well, United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin

You got awhile but its definitely good to see your fired up and ready to go! For me, I am stoked for I-Day, but I am just tryin to put it behind the here and now and enjoyin the time I have left, dont get to caught up in the future and stay focused on what is directly in front...

Good Luck to ya bud!!! ;)

Haha yea thanks, good job on getting in and good luck in the academy.

You don't "join" ENJJPT. You are recommended and selected, in competition with some of the most qualified people at the academy. If you want to have a good shot at it, plan on getting a 3.5+ GPA and have flying experience (IP, flying team, PPL, etc).

To be a soaring IP, you need to take AM 251 (basic soaring) during your 3* summer or fall. Then, you must be selected for the upgrade program (usually 300 apply, 40 are selected). Then, just pass that.

What all does soaring include and what does the flying team do. Is there anything I can do before the Academy that would make me stand out even more for flying

Keep working hard, and focus on academics, sports, and leadership opportunities. I understand your perspective of wanting to get in...but what I have learned over the past year is that securing an appointment turns out to be the easiest part of the journey.

The only thing you can do before the academy is get your Private Pilot License and be Potential Pilot Qualified.

The best way to qualify yourself for programs is to have all the prerequisits down pat. So get here with a solid academic, physical, and leadership background. Doing well in those three areas (both before you get here and while you are here) will let you filter to the top of a lot of lists and give you the time and opportunity to do the things you want to. For example, I was on athletic probation (failed a PT test), and was pretty much excluded from being an IP.

When is the earlyist I should get in touch with an ALO

I would ask your HS counselor for the name of them, or you can contact the AFA directly and ask for the name of the one in your area. Otherwise, you'll get assigned an ALO shortly after you apply for the AFA summer sem, where they'll interview you and begin to really start to have an impact on your application process.

what kind of questions will they ask?

Just simple questions so that the ALO can kinda get an idea of who you are.
