Well I am a sophmore right now and I have zero extra curriculars so far (pathetic, I know) anyway, this summer I am going to be joing my towns first aid squad/certified EMT-b. I am also going to volunteer at a hospital. I see people posting long lists of extra curriculars and I am wondering if I should stick to these two things and truly dedicate myself or would I be better off volunteering for like everything as seems to be the case with many people on this forum. In terms of clubs there are only three that i would even consider joining next year (DECA, Math league, Debate team). I'm really getting screwed over here because there are barely any clubs at my school that aren't dancing/singing/acting/performing arts or things like alchohol awareness clubs. One of my passions is history but there are no clubs or activities or even a quiz-bowl. Another thing I am concerned with is my lack of awards or notable achievements. I have no idea of how I would even go about obtaining one of these awards(Not the extremely difficult national ones such as USAMO, more like regional ones to beef up the application.) So anyway, suggest some thing I can do to improve my application

Create your own clubs :]
At my school you only need three people to create a club.

I agree. Create your own club. Being a founder/leader of a club looks way better than just joining a club. It shows that you are dedicated to and passionate about something.
