How do I transfer? Feeling lost.

Hello all,

This is my first forum post on CC and I really need help. How exactly does the transfer application work? I currently go to a community college and I have enough units to transfer out, but how do I submit my applications?

  1. Do I go to the university’s website to submit my application?
  2. Is there a website that submits my application to all the schools I want to apply to? (Like CommonApps or something)
  3. What exactly goes into the application?
  4. Anything I can do to make my application look better in my final semesters before applying? (School clubs, community service, internships, etc.)
  5. Do I have to state what major I want to study? What if I want to change my major when I get to the school? Is that a difficult process?
  6. How many letters of recommendations should I receive and put in?

Please help me because I am really feeling lost on how the whole process is done.

I think the first step you need to do is to creat a Common App because there’s a big chance that the school you want to transfer to needs that. When you do have an account, go to the “College search” section, try to find the schools you are interested in, and add them. When you’re done, you will find all the requirements they will need for you to transfer. Common App will be your biggest tool here. I would also suggest to go to the website of the schools and go to their “Transfer student” section and make sure that it covers the major you intend to study (for example, most universities have a set of different requirements for applicants trying to enter their business schools). Most of your questions can be answered when you finally have a Common App. :slight_smile:
