How do I turn down an acceptance?

I got accepted to 3 schools that I just applied to as backups because they waived my essay and my application fee, so it didn't cost me anything cost or time wise. I would only really consider going to one depending on the financial aid I receive from them. How do I turn down acceptance from the other two schools?

Also, how can I withdraw an application?

Telephone them. All three. Unheard of in this day and age, eh?

That, or email them, or - most colleges give you a card that you mail back that says whether you want to enrolled or not… Say no, and at the bottom handwrite a nice message of thanks…

I suggest that you wait. You should wait until you get all your offers in from every school you get admitted to. There’s no need to rush that process.

I want to get this taken care of now because two of the colleges ask that I respond within a month.

If you are certain that you will not attend them, because you have already received a more attractive offer, then I think it’s courteous to inform them. These are often schools with rolling admission, and it’s only fair that they know they can offer the slot to another student, especially if you were accepted with a scholarship award.

Then respond within a month. There is no need to rush. Wait it out and talk to your guidance counselor and parents.
