How do online courses work?

How do online courses work? Are American curriculum online courses available internationally?

I can only speak to those offered through JHU CTY. If you’ve qualified for CTY, which you can do internationally, then I believe you’re also qualified for their on line courses.

My S is doing their on line course in linear algebra. They also offer courses in other subjects as well. Some (like the math classes) are self paced while the AP classes have a set start and end time. With the self paced ones, you can add (paying an extra fee) additional time to the six month period. You can also schedule time out periods for vacations and holidays that extend the period.

The math courses use some on line whiteboard software for interaction with the instructor. My S hardly uses this, preferring to go his own way or confer with his Dad, who’s a math prof (live in, how nice.)

Hey, I hope you weren’t one of the students hung up from taking the SAT last weekend due to all the test center closures because of the flu. I felt for you guys.

Thank you! And yes, the SAT last weekend was reshedules, but I’m a sophomore so it didn’t really bother me.

I am a huge proponent of online courses. I have completed one (AP US Gov and Poli) and am currently enrolled in two (AP Bio and AP World History).

They work really well. Make sure the science classes have lab components. The labs work well, but are freaking hard (especially in AP Bio) but manageable. Essentially, in all AP/other online courses, there can either be not much (AP Bio) or CRAPloads (AP World History). It all depends on the provider/teacher, etc., just like regular classes. In fact, I took apush at my real school, a private prep school, and it was easier than WHAP online. It all depends on the provider and teacher, etc.

Here is a list of online high schools. Not sure if you could find one for international students: [Best Online High Schools: Online High School, High School Diploma Online, Online High School Courses, Free Online High Schools - Home](http://www.bestonlinehighschools.com/)

you go online and take a course

I’m an online student and am a proponent of it if you’re willing to work hard… you have extreme flexibility (sometimes too much) and can work ahead… for example I’m done with 5 of my 6 classes for the semester already… you basically login and do your assignments with help from your textbooks… some schools have real teachers that work with you live which is really helpful… I don’t know anything about international though… I think if you were a U.S. resident living overseas you could do it, but otherwise I don’t know
