How do people dress at...

how about berkeley? how do they dress there?

very relaxed.

For Duke: I'd reiterate KingJames23 - "I'd say wear what you want. Be yourself" so long as 'yourself' involves not being completely naked. That's right out. As for being ueber-preppy...there are some as there are everywhere, but it is not as if there's some form of Duke Attire. Well - except for Thursdays. Thursdays we require students to wear morning jackets and carry walking sticks. Oh - and every third day that isn't a Thursday has been voted "Popped and Pink Polo" day - almost forgot. They let us faculty get away with not participating, usually...

What about Notre Dame?

not considering conforming or shaping my closet around it, just curious.

While you're at it....how about Vassar and Hamilton?

Look at pacsun.com for UCB.

Look at the American Eagle or Abercrombie site for Brown, Dartmouth, and that whole shi-bang.

Duke is just weird.

Actually it's funny you ask, visiting a couple colleges Wednesday and Thursday I wasn't sure what to wear, either...I just dressed like myself. Honestly I felt totally underdressed at W&M with my t-shirt, jeans, skate shoes...I saw, like, one girl wearing pants. It was definitely kind of odd. I wore a similar thing to UVa the next day, and didn't feel out of place at all. Actually, that feeling of "fitting in" at one place over the other was really important to forming some opinions about the schools...so I would really suggest dressing like yourself. How good you feel as you should definitely be a factor in what college you decide to go to!

Just like in HS you'll find different cliques of styles...they are as follows:

"Preps" wear nice stuff, usually labels like Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, or Abercrombie & Fitch. Typical outfit consists of a polo shirt, woven, or sweater and either jeans or khakis or shorts/short skirts. Footwear is flip flops (nice ones) or nice shoes. I fit into this category.

"Hooders" is my term for people who always wear a hoodie and jeans. Typically the hoodie is one from the college or from a college sports team. I do not own a hoodie. In the warmer weather they wear generic tee shirts.

"Unique Fashion People" wear anything else. This includes hip-hop people, goths, etc.

Depending on the school, you'll find either a surplus of "hooders" or "preps". At most non-ivy schools, there aren't as many preps--at my school I am one of about 100 or so.

what about at umd?

"Thursdays we require students to wear morning jackets and carry walking sticks."

Man next year at Duke I will definately do that... what is more P-I-M-P than a walking stick and morning jacket i mean come on!
