So... this question has really been bugging me for a while. College is obviously a time where you need to stop dressing like a kid. I've been thinking... is a polo shirt as casual as you go? Is a blazer overdoing it? Any advice would be appreciated.

East coast - jeans and polos
west coast - you can pretty much dress like a bum if ya wanted (from what I've seen)

From my experience it's the same on both coasts, though you have to dress as a slightly warmer bum for more parts of the year on the east coast than west.

most kids wear athletic shorts or sweatpants and a t shirt or a tshirt and jeans. maybe a polo. very few kids are any dressier than that if they dont have to.

Most people on my campus walk around in pajama pants/T-shirt.. because they're just more comfortable really.. It doesn't matter.
College isn't as life changing as you may think.

From what I've noticed at my school, it can greatly vary. Some schools, like Quinnipiac are filled with guys who really don't dress preppy, but wear sideways hates, and ecko, baseball apparel, Billabong, yea northface jackets, while girls dress preppy. Other East Coast schools, like Williams, where my brother goes, are very preppy.

I really don't know west coast, and I'm not gonna guess on stereotypes. I doubt Stanford is all "surfer," but other schools are.

You can where whatever you want. Most guys at my school wear jeans, sweatpants, cargo shorts, athletic shorts, or pajamas, etc. (see anything really goes). As for tops...t-shirts are fine. Hoodies are good too or a polo. Doesn't matter. Wear what is comfortable.
